Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Just a few days back, I happened to attend a baby shower on the behaldf of my young friend who is expecting the first child. I noticed that most of the attendees there were all college friends, with no issues as yet.

Of course, some gifts called for a lot of explanation. Also the would be mothers looked surprised with many things. They all were under the impression that ‘baby layettes’ are just another item on the checklist of the items that you must buy before the junior arrives. But this li’l term culminates to a lot more than that. Here are some tips to prepare for the young one.

1. You must have around four to six of all the basic daily needs of the baby.

2. These include items such as undershirts, onesies, sleeping gowns, footsie pajamas, hooded towels, socks, receiving blankets, washcloths, etc.

3. Be prepared to have some arrangement for daily clothing as having a child means multiplying the laundry exponentially. You surely would not like to leave the child with a spot food spot on his/her last clean shirt and move to the laundry.

4. Plan a lovely going home outfit. This would be an emotional, sentimental & memorable moment that would be clicked by several relatives and shall be a nostalgic moment for the entire house.

5. Further, plan for the baby’s nursery that is an adjustable crib that meets with your ever growing baby’s needs. You shall surely need the baby’s bedding in the form of a crib or a bassinette along with a minimum of two to four sheets for the same.

6. Along side for the crib you would also need a crib bumper, and 2 to 3 crib blankets.

7. You might also want to consider picking out some dust ruffles and waterproof pads for this crib. Though these would be needed a bit later.

8. You shall also need a playpen to carry your new family member along with you to the social gatherings, friend’s or family’s visits, etc. These playpens are also useful to park your kid in another room with in the house in order to fetch out sometime for yourself in the early months.

9. Plan the baby clothes in a way that you are able to stock up sizes from 3 - 6 months of age. This sis because sometimes the baby is larger than the average size of the newborn, or he/she has a faster growth.

10. You must have at least one large box full of the newborn sized diapers when the baby comes home. However, the baby would soon outgrow these so, do not stock them in that bulk. It would be wise to pick these diapers from a sale.

11. For the bathing & hygiene needs of the child you would need the following items:

a. 2 to 3 bottles of baby shampoo

b. 1 bottle baby oil

c. 1 bottle baby lotion

d. 1 pack of baby powder for which corn starch works as a great alternative

e. 1 tube of zinc oxide to wash the diaper rash

12. Even the mothers who are ****** feeding the baby, 6-12 bottles along with the ******* & collars are the basic needs. Those who are not ****** feeding the baby might need some extra ******* as well.
